Writing

In my two years working at Fresno State’s student-run newspaper, The Collegian, I wrote a variety of articles covering a wide range of topics about which I am passionate: science, music, tech, social issues, and more. As online content manager for iHeartRadio San Francisco, I wrote articles about local news, trending topics, new artists and music, pop culture, and more.

“Anti-piracy bill isn’t sunk yet”

Opinion - Published January 25, 2013 - The Collegian, Fresno State

This opinion article covers the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which threatened to potentially shut down many large websites and would have had dramatic effects across the internet. I argue that while the bill had good intentions, its wording was far too broad which could have led to unintended consequences.

Our Chemical Romance: The Science Behind Love

Feature - Published February 13, 2013 - The Collegian, Fresno State

This special Valentine’s Day-themed feature discusses how science and culture intersect to play a role in the experience we call “love.” I interviewed multiple professors specializing in biology, psychology, and human sexuality to give a variety of perspectives on the subject and explanations of the processes that go into falling in (and staying in) love.

How much would you pay for the universe?”

Opinion - Published October 26, 2012 - The Collegian,

In this opinion piece, I frame the issue of NASA’s funding in a historical context, comparing the agency’s current budget with that of the Cold War period. I discuss how politics and war once influenced our country’s drive to get to space (and the resources allocated to do so) and how that has changed with the shifting geopolitical landscape. I argue that NASA’s mission provides many benefits for both technology and the human spirit, rather than the agency just being used as a tool to “win” against the “enemy.

“Two Bay Area Cities Top List of ‘Happiest in America’”

News - Published March 12, 2018 - WiLD949.com

Rankings of things and local news often perform well with radio station audiences. This short article takes a look at the findings of a study that named two Bay Area cities among the top three ‘happiest places to live in America.” The headline teases readers on social media to click through and see where their city ranked, as well as encourages discussion in the comments.

“BTS - 'DNA': Setting New Records for K-Pop”

News - Published October 3, 2017 - WiLD949.com

As part of a recurring website feature called WiLD 94.9 Music Discoveries, I spotlighted up-and-coming artists and hot new songs with a brief article and embedded music video. I took advantage of K-pop’s explosive popularity in America by featuring a new track by BTS, the current most famous group of the genre. Their rabid fanbase spread the link quickly across Twitter, leading this short and simple blog post to become the top performing article across the cluster for the day.
